Who we are
We are a nonprofit research and consulting group dedicated to advancing the science of the brain through rigorous, open, and collaborative neuroimaging research. Our team brings together scientists with deep expertise in quantitative MRI methods, clinical neuroscience, and translational research — united by a commitment to making high-quality neuroimaging science more accessible.
Dr. Faye McKenna, PhD — Founder & Principal Investigator
Dr. McKenna's path through neuroscience spans coasts, continents, and nearly every scale of brain inquiry. She began her research career at Connecticut College, where she investigated the FDA-approved antibiotic ceftriaxone as a potential treatment for opiate withdrawal. She then joined the Clinical and Affective Neuroscience Lab at Brown University, studying the neuroscience of mindfulness-based therapies for depression, before completing her MS in Bioimaging at Boston University — where her research focused on discriminating functional brain disruptions associated with the ApoE ε4 genotype in aging and early mild cognitive impairment.
Drawn to the West Coast, she joined the Memory and Aging Center at the University of California, San Francisco as Imaging Core Manager, developing neuroimaging pipelines and identifying novel data-driven brain regions to track longitudinal atrophy in frontotemporal lobe dementia. After a year traveling through Central America, Southeast Asia, and Europe, she returned to New York to complete her PhD in Biomedical Imaging and Neuroscience at NYU Grossman School of Medicine — applying MR spectroscopy and advanced diffusion MRI to characterize microstructural, microvascular, and neuroinflammatory abnormalities in neuropsychiatric disorders.
She went on to complete postdoctoral training at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, where she investigated the neurobiological correlates of loneliness and social isolation. She is currently an Assistant Professor at Albert Einstein College of Medicine's Gruss Magnetic Resonance Research Center in the Department of Radiology, where she leads a lab applying advanced quantitative neuroimaging to characterize pathology across a range of neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative conditions.
Our Team
Our group brings together researchers and educators at every stage of their scientific careers, creating an environment where rigorous science and mentorship go hand in hand.
Staff Scientists & Postdoctoral Researchers Our senior scientists bring specialized expertise in quantitative MRI methods, neuroimaging data analysis, and clinical research. They lead day-to-day project execution, develop and maintain analysis pipelines, contribute to manuscript preparation, and mentor junior members of the team.
Graduate Researchers Our graduate students are full scientific collaborators — developing original research questions, executing independent projects, and working toward peer-reviewed publication. They are trained in the full arc of neuroimaging research, from data acquisition and preprocessing through statistical analysis and scientific communication.
Research Assistants & Undergraduate Researchers Early-career researchers in our group gain hands-on experience with real neuroimaging datasets and open-source analysis tools. Under close mentorship, they contribute meaningfully to ongoing projects while building the skills and scientific foundation needed for graduate school and beyond.
Educators & Consultants Our affiliated educators and consultants bring expertise in neuroimaging methods, academic career development, and scientific communication. They support our consulting services and student training programs, and contribute to our mission of making advanced neuroscience accessible to a broader community.
We are committed to building a diverse, inclusive, and intellectually rigorous team. If you are interested in joining us at any level, we'd love to hear from you.
